I just found out I am 5 weeks pregnant...hooray! I have a mild form of LI and my hubby has no family history of it. What is the likelihood our child will have LI? Also, I use the PDS cream on a daily basis, does anyone know if it could be harmful to my baby? Thank you for any support offered!

LI follows the autosomal recessive pattern, so that means that for you child to have the same skin condition as you, your partner would have to possess the relevant genetic mutations. The odds of this happening depend on what genetic issues caused your ichthyosis, but there is a much bigger chance of you having a healthy baby than a baby affected by ichthyosis.

If it is of great concern for you and may impact on your decision making process regarding the baby, you should seek the assistance of a genetic counsellor.

All the best with you pregnancy!
