Why every 3 months? We go once a year, if that.

I don't know... that's just what the dr. says she wants us to do. I guess it's so they can stay on top of it if she flairs really badly, but I don't really understand since they never do anything when we're there.

Well, if you don't need to see them, spread things out to every 6mo or every year, depending on what you do need. If something comes up or you have skin infections or other immediate issues, you can always make an appointment for the specific problem.

We went every three months until she was 6mo and then we are going at the end of this month, she will be 13mo but it was the soonest I could get an appt. For us it was peace of mind. Our derm said we could come as often as we wanted. We had LOTS of questions then so we felt like it was good to go more often. Now that we feel we have better control of it, we are comfy spreading it out.

Sam and Jennifer, I couldn't agree more! I'm in PA and Evan goes(went) to a derm at Hershey Medical Center. My husband and I have found that the appointments are simply not worth the time. I love the derm, super nice and knowledgable ~ but she looks at him, takes some pictures and sends us on our way...oh, and on the way out we pay our $50 specialist copay...FOR WHAT? I have found the most valuable feedback and information to be found on the FIRST website and through other parents of children who have Ichthyosis. I have an awesome pediatrician, plus Evan does see an ENT and an Opthamologist! We only plan to visit the dermatologist anually unless we have a problem our pediatrician can't handle. Good luck to you! smile

Thanks NARE.

We've found a new dermatologist who is out of state. Our pediatrician has agreed to work with us so that we'll only have to travel two or three times a year. If we have a problem between dermatologist appointments, we'll go to our pediatrician (who is fabulous!) who will coordinate with the derm over the phone to make sure Cate's taken car of.

I'm so glad things are looking up on the doctor front!
