I saw this on Rome, they used oil to clean their skin and scraped it off with a stick-style thing.

Has anyone tried this. It's strikes me as rather decadent. (probably because a slave was performing the ritual)

What did "Roman Bath" come from then? Big towns got big public baths where the citizens socialize and transact businesses, and big villas got private baths. They were engineering marvels with different rooms with water at different temperature.

Of course, Romans bathed, but they also used the oil and scraper.

It was used in place of soap and water to clean the skin. And then they'd bathe. So I stand correct about the not getting wet bit.

It was my understanding that the Romans would cleanse themselves by applying oil and then slicking it off with a curved, wooden blade. Then they would bathe in a series of baths with different temperatures going from hot to cold.

The oil was used to cleanse the skin and the baths were supposed to renew the spirit.
