Hi all - just came across this forum today and thought I would just ask a question or 2?
I was born with "Infintile Dermatitis" according to the specialists and all my life had very scaly skin on my legs and arms - nothing I used would ever help this condition and to make matters worse , whenever I went into the sun despite using high sun factor screen my legs and arms would always come out in tiny blisters resembling "prickly heat" - I have this condition also on my back but in a lesser form.
Does this condition relate to ichtyosis at all?
Any comments most welcome.
Thanks

It sounds an awful lot like ichthyosis vulgaris, but there are other things that it could be that aren't ichthyosis. Does anyone in your family share your symptoms?

Many dermatologists aren't familiar with rare disorders like ichthyosis. Your best bet for a solid answer is to seek a dermatologist that is affiliated with a medical school or a teaching hospital.

If your grandfather is your mother's father, then you probably have XLI.

do you have any more symptoms you could share, so it could help us conclude? like where your skin is dry, adnd where it is scaly?, when did you discover this condition?, do you sweat normally?, do you have other health conditions? etc... im sure this could help...

Hi I suffer from dry scaly skin on my legs - knees down!! and just dry skin on my arms - no other ailments etc - although I do find after the "initial introduction" to sun - ie holidays - my skin becomes progressivly better!!

i also have the dryest skin and the only "real" scales on my shins... and also the super dry elbows and knees... just by that i would say you've got ichthyosis, but heck, im no doctor... you should go to a dermatologist and see if they have any ideas... and yes, usually moisture in the air helps (mild/humid climates help me a lot)

HI EBBYGUM,
I HAVE X LINKED ICH AND WHEN I GET IN THE SUN THE SCALES ALL COME OFF AND MY SKIN IS NORMAL. UP UNTIL 1984 I LOOKED LIKE AN ALLIGATOR IN THE WINTER MONTHS AND WOULD CLEAR UP IN THE SUMMER MONTHS. I LIVED IN NEW JERSEY, N.E. USA UNTIL 1990.
I HAVE BEEN USING AQUAGLYCOLIC LOTION FOR OVER 22 YEARS NOW, PLUS I LIVE IN SOUTH FLORIDA AND THE LOTION KEEPS ME PRETTY MUCH SCALE FREE. IT ALSO WORKED FOR ME, WHEN I STILL LIVED IN THE COLD N.E.
THERE ARE QUITE A FEW LOTIONS OUT THERE WITH HYDROXY'S AND ACIDS IN THEM THAT WILL HELP, IF YOU HAVE X OR VULGARIS ICH.
IF YOU BROWSE ON THE VULGARIS AND X LINKED ICH LINK ON THIS SITE, YOU WILL FIND PAGES OF HELPFUL INFO.
THE AQUAGLYCOLIC LOTION IS NOT AVALIABLE IN THE UK, BUT THERE IS A PRODUCT CALLED DERMAL THERAPY. THEY ARE IN CANADA AND SHIP WORLD WIDE. THEY HAVE A WEBSITE.
WITH X ICH, THE FEMALE IS THE CARRIER AND MAY PRODUCE MALES WITH IT. I DO NOT KNOW MUCH ABOUT VULGARIS ICH, BUT THAT CAN AFFECT MALES AND FEMALES. YOU WANT TO TRACK DOWN YOUR FAMILY HISTORIES.

X LINKED JOE
