Has anyone tried microdermabrasion (sorry if i spelt it wrong!) i am getting married in March and my skin is a mess at the moment, but i don't want to spend a lot of money if the treatment won't work. i have fairly mild vulgaris.

Please let me know if you've had any good results with this!

Congrats Sofy!

I haven't tried the micoderm from the doctor's office, but I do use Mary Kay's microdermabrasion set. It's much cheaper, only $55 vs the $200 plus at the doctors. The company says that people should only use it 2 or 3 times a week, but then, the company doesn't have ich! I use mine every morning in the shower, and my skin is great! Some days when I'm really bad (like my molting seasons), I also use the Buffing Cream on my face as well. I use only MK products on my face & neck, and MK has the only foundation (Day Radiance Foundation) that I can wear w/o looking wierd.

Go to www.marykay.com, click on consultant locator, type in your ZIP code, and you should be able to find a MK consultant who can help you (she may even do your makeup for you on your wedding day!)

Just make sure you let the lady who you contact know about your skin and that you can't do the "1/2 face thing". When MK consultants demo products for you, they only have you put the moisturizers & lotions on 1/2 of your face after washing it. We say it's so you, the customer, can feel & see the difference from when you moisturize to when you don't. Well, those of us w/ ich KNOW what happens when we don't moisturize! Also tell her you may need to put on some Extra Emollient Night Cream before you put on your foundation. She may worry that it will mess everything up, but believe me it won't. Just tell her you talked to a MK consultant who has the same skin condition you do (me!) and that's what she does. Also tell her you need the Day Radiance foundation, not any of the other kinds.

Good luck on planning your wedding!
-Lea

I didn't have much luck. It cost me a lot (at a specialist clinic) and didn't seem to do much at all. Knowing what i do now about Ich i realise that you would have to microderm all the time because the build up of skin is so fast!
Am interested in these at home kits though. have seen them in the shops. I would want to use them on my hands- the tops that is? Immystique do you think it would work every day on Ich hands - you know how thick they get and all??? Thanks

I use my MK microderm set on my hands as well as my face and it does help quite a bit...although I don't think my hands will ever look 100% "normal". It's just like you said, though, WE have to do the microderm every day, not every 2-3 days like it says on the pkg.

Ladies (I assume!)
I haven't been on this website in a few years so if I'm telling you anything old, please forgive. I LI and my face is of great concern. I use a very very fine pumice stone. I've had it for 20+ years and I guard it with my life. Several years ago I found another one and I have it put aside for when I have to retire my current one. Believe it or not, I use this on my face, scrubbing softly and it really helps. When I'm in my "molting season" (I'm glad someone else uses that term) I will apply a little Lac Hydrin at night and scrub in the morning. I don't normally put that lotion on my face because it will irritate me. I haven't found any clothes that work and I've been looking for many many years. Also, on your hands - I will put the LacHydrin on at night, and wear surgical gloves to hold in the moisture, in the morning I use one of my stones and the skin just rolls off. To maintain that I use Bath and Body works Sugar scrubs. I tried the salt scrubs but they burned because I frequently have cracks around my fingernails. The sugar doesn't sting and it smells good!!! Congratulations on your wedding!

thanks girls (yes I'm sure we are!) i still haven't got my skin perfect - but have been using the Loreal Pure Zone foam wash and moisturiser (which has salyic acid in it), which I have found really good. My skin is much less flaky, although still a bit, and surprisingly it doesn't dry it out too much. I will try the Mary Kay dermabrasion kit though - I just worked out they have a site for NZ.

I think I'm not bad enough for the pumice and am a bit sceptical about it for me as it tends to do more harm than good for my feet - so not keen to try on my face!!

thanks for all the congrats everyone 3 weeks to go!
