It's been very quiet in here for a few days now so I thought I'd ask a question to the general Ichthyosis population. Perhaps this is an EHK question but I'm sure I'll get some response either way. I have a hard little bump on my upper lip right under my nose. It's not a scale and it isn't tender like the rest of my skin. I don't think it's a wart either. Sometimes when I shave the top of it gets sheared off and it bleeds for hours. Even though I have cut the top of it off many times it has never gotten any smaller, it's always there. Now I have found another one just like it on my upper neck/lower jaw line. If you have EHK you are familiar with how we can tear our skin off by scratching at it, well these don't move and don't tear off. It feels like it is very deep rooted. Besides telling me to go see a dermatologist has anyone else had anything like this? Does it sound familiar to you?
Keith.

yeah well, I am going to tell you to see a skin cancer specialist, NOT A DERM.....SO THERE....It sounds nothing to do with icthyosis, so get to the doctor pronto.....

Don't forget you have been a beach baby all your life...

Hey Tatania,

How have you been? Well, I have had the same problems as yourself....I had a lumpectomy also, and a very severe breast infection late last year, had a biopsy, but they couldn't get anything out, turned out to be mastitis, and septisemia set in....

I also have benign breast disease, and it is so frustrating not knowing what is what....

I also have had years of swollen glands that surface with infections, and are very slow to subside if at all...My glands in all areas, were always an interest for the swarms of medicos.

I also forgot to tell Keith, that I had 3 difference skin lumps/sores for quite a few years, and had them seen to in Feb 2000....they were all cut out, and all turned out to be benign tumors....but it was advised that they had to go, just to be sure....

I believe people with EHK are more prone to growing benign skin tumors....I can't remember the names of them all....The biggest one was growing on the soul of my foot way under the thick callous, and I was only aware of it, when it bleed profusely while scalpeling my feet.....after a blister caused the thick stuff to lift totally, what appeared underneath was a very big bright pink skin tag....the other skin lesion was behind my shoulder, and a big warty thing near my groin.....

You think you were graphic Tatania..LOL, LOL

Oh, I just thought of something else which is a real mystery to me.....My toes are very thick with callous, and the little toe on each foot, comes to a long pointy peak....When I try to cut it down abit, it really hurts like I have cut a wart off, but it doesn't bleed, and when you look closely at it, it looks like it has a piece of grey wire along it, growing out the top....and that is what hurts when I cut it....it is really weird....

Although this extra bit is definitely not my real 'live' skin, I definitely feel the nerves, when I cut.....
ANY IDEAS, I have mentioned it to the derms but they didn't have any answers...

Ok,
Now you guys are freaking me out. I just gave myself a thorough breast examination and have found no lumps or bumps, wheewww! From what Tat has described as being calcification seems to be what I'm talking about. Small, hard and little white bumps smaller then a BB. It kinda reminds me of the growths I had as a child in the corners of my mouth/lip area. I had something growing there that looked like "tentacles". The doctor removed it by freezing it with liquid nitrogen. I have one question for you two, did these "removals" that you had done leave scars? I'm tired of almost bleeding to death when I shave but I don't want anymore facial scars then I already have, especially on my lip. I already have a big mercedes benz type scar on my forehead from crashing on my bicycle as a child, but my hair covers that. Oh well, I heard that women are attracted to men with facial scars anyway

Hi Everyone,
I have a one of those hard knots on my left leg and have to be careful when I shave or off it comes, then as soon as I turn around its back and the same size. One of you mentioned looking like cauliflour. I have teenie tiny little bumps like things in my armpits. It tends to take on a brown teng and looks as if I hadn't bathed. I can scrub, and scrub and after making the skin rather pink (or should I say red) the next day its not too bad, but by the second day its brown again. Does anyone else have this problem? If so have you found anything that helps? Also, I do not sweat anywhere except for my upper lip and scalp.
Susan

Hey Keith:
I think the calcified deposit angle might be right. I don't think it's anything related to EHK however. When I was younger (pre-teen years), I developed a number of pimple like bumps. No white-heads, and not even red in color. Just hard little bumps. A few on my face and forehead, and some more on my shoulders and upper arms. I remember going to our family dermatologist and he bascically opened each one up, and used some weird little tool to extract the entire deposit. They were these little hard white things that looked like mini grains of rice. I don't remember what the "condidtion" was called, but a within a week or so, there was no evidence of anything. They never even came back after that, and I have no scars from the experience....physically or mentally.
Take Care,
Mark

Wow...My lymph nodes are very reactive as well, but I didn't know other people were going through this too.
I ended up with two lumps under my armpit that wouldn't go away and had to have a mammogram and ultrasound to learn that it was an infected lymph node.
Whenever I am sick or just run-down, my lymph nodes swell right up. It's nice to know I am not alone in this either
Keith, I would go see someone about that bump, not so much that I think it's anything bad, but a biopsy may remove it once and for all.

I have Lamellar and I have a few lumpy bumps myself. I've had 'em removed, not cancerous, no big deal, but yes, seeing the doc is best for peace of mind, though Keith, if yours are removed should we mourn because there's less of you in the world?

Big hugs to everybody!

Chandra,
Every morning when I get up there is less of me in this world, and it is usually left behind in my sheets. I should've bought stock in the Hoover Vacuum Co. when I was young, as many vacuums as I use I would have made them and myself millionaires. No point in mourning for my losses every morning or I'd be late to work everyday
Keith.
