hi there i was wondering if anyone has problems with their ears. haley is almost 4 months old and she has what seems to be a lot of skin or wax buildup in her ears, i can sometimes grab at it with tweezers but it just comes back, any suggestions or is this a problem that will always be there? crystal

MY DAUGHTER (AGE 11) IS HAVING SUCH A HARD TIME WITH HER EARS RIGHT NOW. SHE IS GOING TO THE ENT EVERY MONTH OR SO TO TRY AND CLEAR UP AN INFECTION. HER EAR ON THE OUTSIDE IS RAW AND THE INSIDE IS JUST TOTALLY JUNKED WITH JUNK. I AM SURE THE DR. WILL SUCK SOME NASTY STUFF OUT TOMORROW AND PRESCRIBE MORE DROPS WHICH DON'T SEEM TO BE DOING A DARN THING.

SO, IF ANYONE HAS ANY ADVICE FOR EITHER OF US THAT HAVE POSTED, IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!

THANKS,
LIB

we take our son to the ENT every 3-4 months to have them cleaned out from the skin build up. Between visits I will use tweezer to get the skin out and also if it seems it is getting bad, I will put a drop of mineral oil in the ear and the next day it is all ready to come out.

I put Debrox drops (or the generic equivalent I prefer CVS brand because it has a better dropper than Walgreen's) in Trevor's ears (LI, 27 months old) about once a week. These days it's usually at night while he's sleeping, although when he was younger he let me do it just about any time. The following evening, after bathtime, I scoop out the wax using a tool his pediatrician gave me. I've seen them at drugstores - to see an example, search for "Ear Wiz" at this site: http://earplugstore.stores.yahoo.net/
It works great, just have to be careful not to dig too deeply. Of all the care we do for his LI, this is the one routine that Trevor actually seems to like.

We've switched from Debrox to sweet oil, because it seems to work better. I alternate days between the oil and a 50/50 hydrogen peroxide/water mix, which bubbles the loosened wax out. There is always wax in her ears at the doctor, of course, but they can see her eardrums and she has great hearing.

we use acetosol hc daily to ears, 2 drops. We tried vinegar, peroxide and debrox - they were not enough to keep up. We also see the ent every 3-4 months to get the extra build up cleaned out. we have been doing this since he was 6 months old.

thanks for the info, does any of these kids have trouble hearing? she is only 4 months old and her hearing seems not good at times but it may be that she is just distracted by other things also. I was at the pedi. today and he didnt seem too concerned but i am. when did your kids see a ear spec. the first time? thanks again this has helped.

I use coloxyl drops in my ears. Its actually meant for infants with constipation and is even chocolate flavoured. Badically it breaks up the skin build up and it often comes out by itself. An ENT specialist suggested it when I was young and I still use it at 29

Hope Haley's ears are feeling better soon

Jeff
