My son,17 months' old has dry skin temporarily. It's not very serious. But I'm afraid it will get worse as time goes on. I just put lotion for babies or children on his skin, such as Johnson's baby lotion or oil but it does not work much. I wonder whether lotion with urea will be better for this kind of skin. I haven't tried yet. I do hope to increase the humidity of his skin, which will ease him a little, because his skin sometimes itches. Urea is effective, isn't it? I am with Ichthyosis, but it has been relieved by a effctive moisturizing substance glycerin mixed with other body lotion. Need your help.

Urea helps remove dead skin. It is in many over the counter lotions in different amounts. It is in Aquaphor, in a low concentration, and in foot balm and products like it, in a 25% concentration. (I would not use the 25% concentration on a young child or baby) We have found aquaphor and Eucerin as great products to remove dead skin, and keep the unaffected skin looking great too. Hope this helps.
Do you know what type of skin condition he has? Also, you can contact FIRST at www.scalyskin.org for more information. Welcome to the board.

yes Urea cream is effective in removing the scales. It should be 10% urea cream or less.
Glycerin plus aqua rose in 50:50 ratio was proved best for dry skin of my son

Just to clarify, the original Aquaphor does not have urea in it. It is possible that it's in the Healing version.
